Happy Halloween

I bought candy, but no trick-or-treaters at all! I was sort of bummed, but got a lot of work done. Maybe it was the fact that I had my 1st-baseable-version-of "the ugly one"-from-teen girl squad Jack-o-lantern aiming down the stairs. It may have given trick-or-treaters the impression that they'd have to deal with a mildly retarded or crazy person in order to get candy.

Pumpkin Carving Party

Went to a pumkin carving party last night at Kat and James' apartment in San Francisco. I always get lost in San Francisco. The same navigational logic that works in the suburbs does not work in big cities like SF, but I always give it a try anyway. And end up farther and farther from my destination. GPS Navigation is so expensive!
Things went awry right off the freeway when I was supposed to stay to the right but turn left on Harrison with the flow of traffic. Somehow that didn't happen. And after a number of erroneous corrective moves I was in the Haight and needing to consult my map. The one I purchased the last time I got lost in SF. To add to the fun, the parking hell that is San Francisco makes it difficult to pull over and consult the map. But I found a temporary pull-over spot, mapped my route and made it there fasionably late. 40 minutes to find parking and the mile walk from my parking place to the party helped with that. Not complaining though. It was an adventure that I appreciated in the moment.

It was a fun time, although I don't really like to carve pumpkins. At this point in my life I'm bored with the standard jack-o-lantern, so my designs are, shall we say, experimental. Not all successful, nor appreciated by all. I must admit I wasn't too craftsman-like in my approach either. They were more like rough-draft concept jack-o-lanterns.

The party was fun. James and I were the only men there. Also in attendance were Kat, Lindasusan, Emily and three other women who I didn't know. James, the techno-master extrordinaire had a killer, albeit temporary setup, with plasma screen hooked up to a mac mini, and powering an old amp through an airport express device. He tried to download some "Haircut 100" for me, but Itunes stalled on the download for some reason and never got to hear it.

The evening was concluded with a pumkin seed feast. Fun was had by all, I think.

Fight!

Doing laundry has never been so exciting! I was carrying my basket o' dirty clothes to the laundry room this morning when I heard a man yelling. I assumed it was the typical angry white man yelling at his wife. I was half right. By the time I had stepped into the laundry room a woman was complaining to the weekend manager and maintenance man that the "gentleman" unloading his clothes from the drier had just yelled at her and got in her face about somebody taking someone elses laundry out of the drier or washer. In fact I think she claimed that he had threatened her. I didn't really catch the whole thing, because also in the laundry room was a very attractive young woman I had never seen before. She looked kind of like Sinead O'conner in her heyday, with the very short hair. Might have been in chemo though. Anyway, she had just sent her son out of the room because of the disturbance.

So I looked over at the angry man, and he is none other than my downstairs neighbor, who we'll call old polyester pear-body angry man. The man that returns my "good morning" with not even a grunt. He leaves the room, followed shortly by the target of his anger and I am left to converse with Sinead. But a few sentences later enters a large blonde man wearing a shiny white sweat outfit. If you've seen Spinal Tap, picture a big 6' 4" version of their manager, complete with 70's style feathered hair with the center-part. And sure enough, in a very agited british accent he asks me if I've seen the "old fucker" that threatened his fiance. I say yes, and in a very hostile and threatening manner he asks "was it you?" Of course I answer no, Sinead backs me up and he leaves rather quickly, a bit embarrassed, I think, for his false accusation. I know that any time I act out of anger I am wrong and embarrassed. Good thing to avoid.

Later, when I'm getting my laundry out of the drier I see Sinead again, only this time she's wearing a necklace with very large brown wooden beads. It reminds me of the time I was flying on business and half of the flight turned out to be some kind of cult from oregon. They were all wearing necklaces with big brown wooden beads, only they also had a picture of some guy attached to the front. One of them asked me if I could move so they could all sit together. Something about them bugged me, so I said no. I think they probably spent a little too much time together anyway.

This is post number one. Isn't this a lot of fun?

I always like to say that. It's from Spinal Tap, you know. If you didn't recognize it maybe you should watch the movie a few more times.

Well hey, I'm blogging. Who the hell cares? I don't think anyone really will take time out of their busy day to read this, but I am doing it anyway. So screw everybody (except you).

A little about me? I have two beautiful kids, that's the first and most important thing. I have a part-time survival job and am also trying to get my own web design business off the ground at the same time. Most of the time I am worrying about making ends meet, as I'm sure are most people in this bullshit economy. I play the guitar for Kat Downs and the Eclectics. I'm also interested in genealogy, and have a website through which I've met cousins who do research, which I post on the site. I'm not religious, but enjoy the philosophy and experience of zen buddhism. Zen is not a religion, but I'm not sure everyone understands that. My favorite book is the tao te ching.

I could go on, but I'd rather go to bed. Good night!
